Training

A range of training options are offered by Rostrum.

Up one level

Rostrum Training Council conducts courses throughout the year which are available to both members and non-members.  They are led by Senior Rostrum Critics (evaluators) and held in the city and (on request) in the country.

For further information, please contact Training Council .   Full details for courses in 2006 are as follows:

 1.  Basic Speaking

This is a fundamental course for new speakers who seek practical advice on basic speaking aspects such as controlling nerves, collectuing material, structuring and presenting a speach. They will gain practice in speaking with feedback from an experienced evaluator.

2.  Becoming a Better Speaker

This course caters for both the novice and the more experienced speaker.  It includes advice on voice production and presentation as well as dealing with the fundamentals of speechmaking.

Speaker on Lectern

Participants are asked to deliver a couple of speeches for practice and evaluation.  There is also a segment on impromptu speaking.

3.   Effective Criticism

This course is for aspiring critics (evaluators) as well as those who wish to refine and enhance their performance as established critics.  It is an essential component for Club Critics who seek accreditation.  It is also recommended for those wishing to polish their speaking skills.

4.  Chairmanship

This course will emphasise the more important aspects of formal meeting procedure - handling of motions and amendments, points of order, maintaining control - and will also deal with how to effectively guide and participate in more informal small group meetings.

Scheduling on request.

5. Competent Speakers Certificate

This is available to participants in the Becoming a Better Speaker Course on the completion of four speeches. It can also be attained by members through club speaking - your club secretary or critic has all the details.
