Club Management Training Workshop

(Incoming Office Bearers Workshop)

The next Club Management Training Workshop is scheduled as follows:

Please ensure that all new committee members and those who are changing committee positions register to attend.

The elected positions are – President, Secretary, Treasurer, Program Director, Dais Representative and Committee members.

A senior and well-experienced member of Rostrum conducts each session. The sessions are inter-active and allow time for instruction, questions and answers and always a flow of ideas to be shared with others. Club Management Training Workshop Manuals are given to all participants to keep for future reference.

Other Short Courses

From time to time Rostrum runs short courses, which are free to members. The courses are also open to the public. The cost for non-members is $60, but $50 of that cost is credited against the joining fee if they join a Rostrum club within 1 month of the course. A voucher is issued for that purpose. It is an ideal way for potential members to gain an insight into the value of Rostrum membership.

The courses provide more in-depth knowledge on particular areas of public speaking and meeting management that cannot be achieved within the time constraints of a Rostrum meeting.

1. Getting Started - a Short Course on Speaking

This 3 hour course is held the first Tuesday of each month and covers;

• nervousness,

• basic speech structure

• finding something to say

Booking is essential and numbers are limited to 10 per course.

2. Chairmanship for Beginners

This course is held 3 time per year and is intended to give new members the skills to be able work their way successfully through an agenda. It covers all aspects of the Chairman’s role and responsibilities; host, announcer, as well as handling motions and amendments and voting.

Booking is essential and numbers are limited to 25 per course.

3. Chairmanship Rules

A new course is being developed intended for members with a bit more experience and will deal with the technicalities of the rules of debate and other nitty gritty issues. The first of these will be held on June 17th.

Critic Reaccreditation

Critic Accreditation is valid for three years.

Training Council encourages Accredited Critics to take part in the re-accreditation process during the third year of their accreditation. The purpose of re-accreditation is to ensure the correct procedure of a Critique is still being used and presented to members of Rostrum Clubs. When it is thought advisable the Accredited Critic is asked to consider further training.

Critic Quarterly Meetings

Accredited Critics, Club Critics and Trainee Critics are all members of Training Council.

Quarterly meetings of this council are conducted to discuss issues related to aspects of training and the activities of Training Council Executive.

Concerns a member may have or problems they may have encountered are encouraged and discussed. Usually a solution is quickly available because other Critics have experienced the same, or very similar, problem at some time.

Quarterly Workshops

Following the Training Council meeting a workshop is presented. These workshops are open to all Rostrum members are free of charge. Workshops presented have covered topics such as – How to use a microphone effectively, thinking outside the square, Interview techniques for the interviewer and interviewee, how you can use Power Point effectively, Adjudication and Competition Speeches, Voice production and presentation and many others. The duration of these workshops are usually one and a half to two hours.

The next Training Council Workshop is yet to be determined. Further updates will be provided at a later date.
